Plastic Surgeons
In Australia, it is not illegal for a General Practitioner to perform invasive surgery if it is at the request and permission of the patient. However, as a Doctor with only a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree is not formally trained for invasive surgical procedures, it is highly recommended that a person seeking cosmetic surgery should choose a plastic surgeon that has been formally trained and is a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Cosmetic surgeons may specialize in one or many different types of surgery, including but not limited to breast enhancement, collagen injections and weight reduction.
Surgical Procedures
Breast Augmentation is more commonly known as breast enlargement and is one of the most sought after cosmetic procedures. Some studies indicate that more than fifty percent of women are unhappy with their current breast size and or shape. There are several methods involved in the process of breast enlargement which may also include breast lift surgery to correct substantial sagging of the breast tissue.
Breast Reduction involves reducing the volume and weight of the breast and is a procedure available to both men and women. Typically the procedure involves removing excess breast tissue and skin and may involve the relocation and size reduction of the nipple. Not everyone is a suitable candidate for Reduction Mammoplasty and a consultation will determine if this procedure is a suitable choice for the patient. In some cases, a change in diet and lifestyle habits may provide the required results without surgery.
Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty is a procedure which removes excess skin and fat tissue from the abdominal region to flatten the abdominal and waist area.
